365 Changes? Yeah right!

Julie Doucet's "365 Days"

Julie Doucet's "365 Days"

I do think New Year’s resolutions can’t technically be expected to begin on New Year’s Day, don’t you?  Since, because it’s an extension of New Year’s Eve, smokers are already on a smoking roll and cannot be expected to stop abruptly on the stroke of midnight with so much nicotine in the system.  Also dieting on New Year’s Day isn’t a good idea as you can’t eat rationally but really need to be free to consume whatever is necessary, moment by moment, in order to ease your hangover.  I think it would be much more sensible if resolutions began generally on January the second.
~Helen Fielding, Bridget Jones’s Diary

Ever heard of that idea that once the clock strikes 12 o’clock on the first day of January, you begin to make up a list that you’ll never complete no matter how hard you try. Or set up some ridiculous goal that isn’t even possible?!

Yes, you heard right! I’m talking about New Year’s Resolutions. Every year we spend the beginning of each year pining over these resolutions, but how many of us actually keep them going for the full 365 days? Anybody? All those weight-loss plans, healthier habits, change-my-life ideas never stick.

I’m doing just the opposite of that. For 365 days I am changing one thing in my life that may change it forever or last only one day. Who knows what’ll happen? Sounds silly, I know, but I have no doubt in my mind that I can do this. Maybe… All the possibilities are open. Starting today, I’m making change. BIG CHANGE.

So what’s your opinion on this? With all the motivation I need, leave a comment and tell me what you think about New Year’s Resolutions.
